Jesse Winker and the New York Mets took on the Baltimore Orioles for the finale of their three-game series. With the series tied at 1-1, Wednesday was serious business.
Both teams would be locked in until Harrison Bader made a hilarious mishap rounding second base in the fifth inning. He slipped and had to pirouette to regain his balance before sliding into third and Winker was astonished.
Watch the clip below:
It doesn't look like Winker will let Bader forget about this one too quickly. However, Bader would end up later scoring on a fielder's choice off the bat of J.D. Martinez.
Jesse Winker has been a solid trade acquisition
Jesse Winker joined the Washington Nationals on a Minor League deal to start the season. He cracked the Opening Day roster and was great to open up the 2024 season.
He continued that pace, eventually raising his trade stock, and was a top candidate at the deadline. The Mets traded minor league right-handed pitcher Tyler Stuart for the explosive bat.
Since joining his new club, he has been great. He has played in 17 games, hitting .275/.302/.314 with two doubles and three runs batted in.
He has been the extra bat the club can rely on as they try to continue their push up the National League West standings. The Mets are 65-61, two games behind the Atlanta Braves and 8.5 behind the division-leading Philadelphia Phillies.
The team has come a long way from how they started the year, and they are just 2.5 games out of a wild card spot. However, they have some tough series to close out the regular season.
The Mets must play their best baseball from here on out if they want to reach the postseason for the first time since 2022.
