Juan Soto launched a solo home run off Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto to help the New York Yankees tie the scores in the third inning of World Series Game 2. The Dodgers had taken an early lead after Tommy Edman continued his hot postseason run with a solo homer in the previous inning.
Juan Soto came up to the batter's box for his second plate appearance of the game after grounding out the first time. He faced Yamamoto on the mound, who had only allowed a couple of walks in the game up to that point. The Yankees were trailing the Dodgers by a run and had two outs on the board when Soto stepped up to the plate.
It was a fascinating battle between the two young overseas superstars, as Yamamoto gained an early edge by getting two strikes on Soto, who fouled off the fifth pitch of the at-bat to keep the count at 2-2.
Yamamoto then tried to jam up the batter with a 97-mph fastball on the inside part of the strike zone, but Soto was all over it and crushed a home run over the wall in the right field corner.
Tommy Edman homered to give Dodgers early lead before Juan Soto drew Yankees level
Tommy Edman has been red hot for the Dodgers during this postseason and was named the National League Championship Series MVP against the New York Mets last week. Edman put his team into an early lead in the second inning by driving New York Yankees starter Carlos Rodon deep with a solo home run into the left field bleachers at Dodger Stadium.
The Dodgers added Edman to their roster at the trade deadline, and he has become one of their top performers in the playoffs despite playing a utility role.
