The KBO All-Star Game took place on July 6, marking the midway point of the Korean season and a break for the players. Those lucky enough to make the game and be honored for their performances didn't get the full rest, but they did get to share a special moment with their families.
All-Stars on both sides got to bring their daughters to the game and even walk out onto the field with them. Before each at-bat, an All-Star was accompanied by his young daughter to the plate. The crowd roared each time.
It was a special moment, one that these players might never forget. There isn't really an equivalent in the MLB, as players are by themselves for the All-Star Game.
KBO All-Star Game a wild success
The Korean All-Star Game was a huge success. The players enjoyed a quality outing and a special display. Among the All-Stars was former Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu.
Veteran superstar Choi Hyoung-woo knocked in a solo home run during the game. He also fell a triple shy of the cycle and, unsurprisingly, was named MVP. Team Nanum defeated Team Dream 4-2 in the All-Star Game thanks to Hyoung-woo's performance. All night long, he was impressive.
He received 19 of 21 possible MVP votes. The slugger is also the all-time KBO leader in RBIs and total bases. He put on a show in front of the sellout crowd of 22,500 fans.
He is 40 years old, so he became the oldest ASG MVP in KBO history. As a result of his dominant performance, Hyoung-woo earned over $7,000 in prize money as well.
On Team Dream, there was another aging veteran. Closer Oh Seung-hwan recorded the last two outs in the top of the ninth to cement the 4-2 victory. He is less than a month shy of 42 years old, and as such, he is the oldest player ever to appear in an All-Star Game.
