Logan O’Hoppe chose a special theme for his Players Weekend outfit on Friday. In the series opener between the Los Angeles Angels and Atlanta Braves at Angel Stadium, the Angels catcher wore custom-designed protective gear, decorated by the cancer-batting young patients from Miller Children’s and Women’s Hospital in California.
He and Angels pitcher Hunter Strickland went to the hospital before the game and met the kids. O’Hoppe spent quality time with them, chatting and clicking photos as they individually contributed to his Players Weekend special outfit.
“@Logan_Ohoppe’s #PlayersWeekend gear is truly one-of-a-kind ❤️👏,” MLB posted on Instagram.
Amid the Angels' 3-2 victory over the Braves, fans also joined in the comment section, praising the Angels star's great initiative.
“Keep doing this stuff man. The world needs it,” a fan commented.
“O’hoppe won players weekend easily with this,” a fan said.
“He hit a "Spirit BOMB" 💣 by channeling the energy of all the kids that signed the chest protector 🙌🔥❤️💙,” a fan added.
Logan O’Hoppe ended his hit slump in the best way possible
First, Logan O'Hoppe won hearts by showing his support for the young souls battling cancer at the hospital, and then he won the game for the Angels and broke his no-hit streak in the best way possible.
O'Hoppe, who had a 0-for-29 in his last seven games since the New York Yankees series, went 1-for-4 with a two-run score-equalizing homer on Friday. Mickey Moniak’s RBI double in the sixth inning gave the Angels a 3-2 win.
However, the Angels' situation didn’t change much as they lost Saturday’s game 11-3, tying the series. With a 53-70 record, they are at the bottom of the AL West, 13 and a half games behind the division-leading Houston Astros (66-56). Considering their current position, with missing key players and limited time before playoffs, they are likely to miss the postseason (again).
