Opening Day can't come any faster for New York Mets fans. MLB is still in its Winter Meetings phase but fans in Queens can't help but anticipate and hype up their newest acquisition: superstar Juan Soto.

A recent video package published by the Mets ramped up the anticipation about the All-Star's official transfer from the Bronx to Queens. The presentation included praise for Soto — calling him a generational talent, and the move being touted as a "seminal moment" in the club's history.

The New York Mets and superstar agreed to a whopping $765 million deal over 15 years that made Juan Soto own the richest contract in sports history.

Soto's contract drew flak when it surpassed what was thought to be an egregious $700 million deal given to Shohei Ohtani when the latter moved to the LA Dodgers last season. However, given that Mets owner Steve Cohen's track record of free-spending on stars, the move didn't come as a surprise to some.

New York Mets' relentless pursuit of talent in Winter Meetings

After locking down the biggest name in this free agency market in Juan Soto, Mets owner Steven Cohen and the team haven't stopped courting talent in the hopes of signing them.

It has now been reported that the team is seeking to bolster their pitching crew that was middle of the pack in terms of ERA but was respectable enough to be one of the most un-hittable crews in the game.

The New York Mets are reportedly eyeing Japanese phenom Roki Sasaki and hoping to re-sign Sean Manaea. Sasaki has officially been posted to the majors after a small sample size in Japan's NPB having played just four seasons. However, he boasts a stellar 29-15 record with a 2.10 ERA with a perfect game under his belt at just 23 years of age.

The Chiba Lotte Marines star holds multiple records despite his young age. He holds the record for most consecutive strikeouts in a game with 13 and the NPB record for most strikeouts in a game with 19. If Sasaki chooses to sign with the Mets, he would be reunited with compatriot and fellow former NPB ace Kodai Senga.

Free agent Sean Manaea, meanwhile had a resurgence in 2024 and recorded his best season as a starter. Thelefty posted a 12-6 record with a 3.47 ERA with 184 strikeouts in 181 and 2/3 innings pitched. Based on the performance he showed last season, it should merit him a respectable payday from MLB clubs.
