An intense moment ensued between Ramon Laureano and Francisco Alvarez during a rundown in the 10th inning, with the game tied 2-2 between the New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves at Citi Field. With Phil Maton on the mound at the top of the 10th, the Braves had a go-ahead runner at third in Laureano.
With only one man out, Maton, upon learning Jarred Kelenic was trying to bunt for a quick run, threw a pitch outside the zone as catcher Alvarez caught Laureano in a rundown and finally made a tag.
However, Alvarez was unintentionally hit by Laureano during the play, resulting in words being exchanged and things getting heated on the diamond.
Though Laureano quickly gestured to see if he hurt him, Alvarez had something to say, resulting in the benches on the cusp of clearing. However, everything ended well.
Phil Maton got the final out while New York walked off in its half of the inning to win the game 3-2 in 10 innings.
