The Texas Rangers could be getting pitching reinforcements soon as Jacob deGrom has made a significant step in his recovery process. On Monday, the two-time Cy Young Award winner threw off the mound for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery.
It's been a difficult few seasons for Jacob deGrom as injuries have stalled his incredible career. The superstar pitcher has not thrown more than 100 innings since 2019 as various arm injuries have slowed him down, including Tommy John surgery last year.

Although Tommy John surgery results in pitchers missing significant time, Jacob deGrom is on pace to return at some point in the second half of the season. The fact that he managed to throw off the mound for the first time is a significant step in the right direction for the All-Star. While there is a long way to go, it is a major milestone on his road to recovery.
Prior to the 2023 season, deGrom signed a massive five-year, $185 million contract with the Texas Rangers. Unfortunately for deGrom, he could only pitch in 30.1 innings with his new club before suffering a torn UCL in his right elbow. While the team won the World Series, deGrom had to witness the success from the sidelines.
Jacob deGrom is not the only Rangers pitcher looking to return to the rotation
Although there is still significant time ahead in deGrom's recovery, another superstar pitcher is nearing his return to the Texas Rangers rotation. Three-time Cy Young Award winner and future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer is expected to return to the rotation at some point this week.
"Bruce Bochy said Max Scherzer's next start will be with the Texas Rangers (as opposed to the Round Rock Express). He did not say when that would be, though." - @kennlandry
The 39-year-old has not pitched for the Texas Rangers since the postseason after undergoing back surgery and recovering from a nerve issue in his right triceps. The Rangers will likely proceed with caution once Scherzer is activated. However, having a future Hall of Famer back in the rotation can only help the team defend their World Series crown.
