Cincinnati Reds manager David Bell had a heated moment on the field in the game against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park. The Monday night game saw the Reds skipper ejected by plate umpire Malachi Moore.

In the eighth inning, David Bell was seen arguing with Moore on the field. Shortly after, the umpire gave the ejection signal, which infuriated Bell.

Here's a clip of the moment tweeted by Talkin’ Baseball:

Even after being ejected David Bell continued arguing and shouting at the umpire before leaving the field. He later revealed that the reason for the argument was the LED lights at the ballpark.

“It started that way and beyond that it’s not really doesn’t really matter. It’s not really worth talking about so but yeah, that’s how originated that was the original reason for going out there,” Bell said when asked if LED lights was the reason to argue with the ump (starting at 1:20).

Bell is the 63rd manager of the Cincinnati Reds, having taken over in 2018. In July 2023, he signed his third contract extension, a three-year deal that keeps him at the helm through the 2026 season.

David Bells' Reds held scoreless for eight innings in loss to Pirates

The Cincinnati Reds offense struggled against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 4-1 loss, recording seven hits on 32 at-bats, scoring one run and one walk while striking out 10 times.

The Reds took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Spencer Steer’s RBI double, but the Pirates didn't allow them to score any more runs. Paul Skenes only allowed one run in six hits and one walk while striking out seven batters in the six innings he pitched.

Talking about the Pirates pitcher, Reds manager David Bell said (via AP News):

“Early on, we were really trying to be ready for his fastball and I thought we did a nice job of it in the first inning. To his credit, he made a nice adjustment, went to his other pitches and did a really good against us. He’s impressive.”

The Cincinnati Reds (34-38) are fourth in the NL Central, while the Pittsburgh Pirates (35-37) are just ahead of them in third. The Reds face the Pirates on Tuesday in the second game of their three-game series.
