Ronald Acuna Jr.'s brother, Luisangel Acuna, has been making his own name for himself lately, bursting onto the big-league scene with terrific play and plenty of hits.
On Tuesday, he made the mistake of leaving just enough time for Michael Harris II, one of baseball's best outfielders, to make a play. Harris made one, preventing Acuna from getting another hit in the early portion of his MLB career.
Acuna lined one into center field, where a charging Harris had to dive and stretch his glove out to make the grab. Though the elder Acuna isn't playing right now, he couldn't help but taunt his younger brother after the catch.
From the dugout, the 2023 NL MVP gestured over to his brother on the New York Mets side, pointing to Harris and laughing about his brother's near hit. The Atlanta Braves were up five runs by that point, but Acuna did manage to keep his hot streak going with a 1-for-3 performance overall.
This is a very important series. Aside from being the first time these two brothers are on opposite sides, though one is out, it's crucial for both teams to do well as just one game (after last night's Braves win) separates them in the Wild Card race.
Luisangel Acuna reveals who Acuna family is rooting for in key series
It's a matchup of Acunas: Ronald Acuna Jr. and the young Luisangel Acuna. It's also a matchup between hated division rivals and two teams desperate to lock in a postseason berth.
For the Acuna family, the decision to root for one or the other is seemingly not that hard.
According to Fox News, Luisangel made it plain who the family is rooting for:
"Me. My brother's not playing."
Acuna reportedly had 15 family and friends in the stands for Tuesday's series opener. It's not quite a guarantee, but whoever wins this series has a significant leg up on the other when it comes to the playoffs.
They'd have a better record and the tiebreaker, so these games could not be more important to both franchises and to both Acuna brothers.
