Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers are heading to the World Series after making light work of the New York Mets in Game 6 of the NLCS on Saturday. The Dodgers' offense was too hot to handle for the Mets once again as the NL West champions won 10-5 on the night, clinching the NL pennant with a 4-2 win in the championship series.
Shohei Ohtani, playing in the postseason for the first time since making his MLB debut in 2018, was in a celebratory mood after the win and enjoyed it with Dodges manager Dave Roberts. The duo were seen showering each other with beers during the postgame celebration in the locker room.
The NL pennant winners will face the New York Yankees in a blockbuster World Series showdown, with the AL East winners chasing their first Fall Classic title since 2009.
Shohei Ohtani reflects on the Dodgers' NLCS triumph.
There was never any doubt about two-time MVP Shohei Ohtani's talents, but a lack of postseason success with the Los Angeles Angels during his six-year stint overshadowed his accolades.
However, after a blockbuster $700 million move to the Dodgers in the offseason, the Japanese slugger is one step closer to achieving his World Series dreams in his maiden postseason appearance.
He said after the game:
"This is a place that I've dreamt of playing all of my life. To be able to finally come to this stage, be able to play, and hopefully win it is my next goal."
Ohtani, a favorite for the NL MVP title, will be up against AL MVP front-runner Aaron Judge, who is also chasing his first World Series ring after racking several personal accolades with the Yankees.
It will be the sixth time the home run leaders from the National League and American League will face each other in the Fall Classic and the first time in nearly seven decades. Mickey Mantle and Duke Snider were the last pair to do so in 1956.
