There is a realistic chance that Trevor Bauer might be more famous these days for his social media presence than for being a professional pitcher. The former Cy Young Award winner has not pitched in the MLB since 2021 but he remains a prominent figure on baseball social media.
Despite being one of the most polarizing players in baseball, Bauer has used his personality and willingness to combine baseball and different challenges into a strong following online. The former LA Dodgers star has used his growing platform to test his abilities, while also showcasing his character off the field.
One of the challenges Bauer attempted to complete belongs to Seattle Mariners legend Ichiro Suzuki. The future Hall of Famer appeared in a video that went viral, showing the outfielder knocking down four consecutive baseball bats standing. Bauer has attempted the challenge for several days; however, after 10 days of struggling, he finally got it done.
Despite still being an elite pitcher, Bauer struggled to replicate that bat challenge of Ichiro for nine days, but after making a slight adjustment to his strategy, he finally did it on Wednesday.
"I went online and read one of the comments and they were saying that I wasn't throwing hard enough, so today, I'm throwing harder," Bauer said.
It was impressive to see the former All-Star finally get it done as it appeared impossible given his earlier struggles. These are the types of social media videos that have helped Bauer grow his channels.
Trevor Bauer has attempted several other unique challenges on his social media accounts
Although Trevor Bauer's future in the MLB might be uncertain at best, it's clear that the former Cincinnati Reds ace could be a successful full-time influencer. The Ichiro bat challenge is far from the first that Bauer has attempted, as he has tried to record a strikeout with grocery store items, as well as a "Deal or No Deal" type showdown with Eric Sim.
It remains to be seen what he will do next; however, it is impossible to rule anything out. Last month, Bauer took his talent across the pond to face some of Europe's best batters. Even if he never pitches again in the MLB, he seems to be enjoying himself these days.
