On Wednesday, the Chicago White Sox won 4-3 against the Los Angeles Angels in the second game of their three-game series at Guaranteed Rate Field. The White Sox, coming off a 3-2 victory in the series opener, avoided their 121st loss of the 2024 season for the second straight game.
White Sox outfielder Andrew Benintendi hit an RBI single while facing Angels’ Jose Quijada, breaking the tie and leading to their victory in the 10th inning. Benintendi’s hit, which traveled 244 feet with a 93.4 mph exit velocity, allowed Miguel Vargas to score.
After the game-winning hit, all the Chicago White Sox players and staff rushed onto the field to celebrate, giving Benintendi a water shower.

Andrew Benintendi also had a crucial single during Tuesday’s game that broke the tie and helped them win the game. The White Sox, with 38 wins and 120 losses, have a .241 winning percentage and are ranked last in the AL Central standings.
They are tied with the 1962 New York Mets for the most losses in a single season in the modern era of Major League Baseball. The White Sox will need to avoid defeat in their remaining four games to avoid taking the title outright.
White Sox General Manager Chris Getz opens up about team’s disappointing 2024 season
The Chicago White Sox had a terrible campaign this year. They had never lost more than 106 games before this season. Discussing their struggles, General Manager Chris Getz said (via MLB.com):
“It’s been very trying for me personally and our staff and everyone in this organization. Our fans certainly don’t deserve to go through anything like this. They pay money to come to games and watch games. They look to watch the Chicago White Sox as a positive outlet and we haven’t been able to provide too many positive outcomes throughout the season.
“It’s certainly my job and others now to focus more so on the future. Learn from the past and start building towards where the White Sox deserve to be for our fans and for everyone who works here,” he added.
The White Sox are scheduled to face the LA Angels again on Thursday in the finale of their three-game series before taking on the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park for their final series of the regular season.
