The New York Yankees left fielder, Alex Verdugo, enjoyed a family day at a gaming arcade on Thursday. He coached his younger son at the plate while his partner, Yamille Alcala, had their older son cheer for his brother.
When the younger boy hit a home run and ran around the plate, the family celebrated the moment, which Verdugo shared on Instagram with the caption:
“#TBT to some family time ❤️.”
Verdugo and his long-time girlfriend, Yamille Alcala, have three children together. He’s a father of two sons, A.J. and Efrin and a daughter named Alianna Judith Verdugo, whom they welcomed on April 29.
It’s not surprising that his sons are showing promise in baseball from an early age as they have a highly talented father to guide them. Verdugo has a stat line of .239/.294/.385 and an OPS of .679 this season. In his first year with the Yankees, he contributed 45 RBIs, 42 runs and 10 home runs in 92 games.
Although it’s not confirmed if he will remain with the club next year, a postseason participation or, in the best-case scenario, a World Series win will definitely boost his chances.
Alex Verdugo showed his support to the rookie teammate on social media
On Sunday, the Yankees' young prospect Ben Rice, who replaced Anthony Rizzo on first base, had an impressive game against rivals Boston Red Sox.
Rice went 3-for-5 with three homers that day, contributing seven RBIs in the Yankees’ 14-4 win. He’s also the first Yankee rookie to have three homers in a single game. To celebrate the young teammate’s big day, Alex Verdugo posted an Instagram story with Rice’s photo from his Dartmouth College Baseball days.
“DUB,” Verdugo wrote.
But that didn’t end the Yankees' misery, and they returned to their losing streak, which started with the Red Sox last month. In July, they have a 3-7 record. The Yankees now have a 57-39 record, tying with the Baltimore Orioles (57-37), who have a better percentile.
Both division rivals are facing each other in a three-game series at Camden Yards, with the Yankees winning the opener on Friday. It’ll be their last series before the All-Star game, which takes place on Tuesday at Globe Life Field.
