On Saturday, Gerrit Cole and the New York Yankees squared off against Rafael Devers and the Boston Red Sox. Boston took Game 1 on Friday, so Cole and the Yanks were looking for revenge.
While tied in the fifth inning, Devers launched a solo shot which he immediately knew was gone. He took his time watching it fly and slammed his bat down in excitement.
Cole was not too happy about Devers' pimp job. He stared hard at the veteran slugger as Devers was rounding the bases.
Watch the clip below:
Devers has had a lot of success against Cole during his career. He now has eight home runs off the reigning American League Cy Young Award winner, which is more than any other player has managed against the Yankees ace.
Gerrit Cole and the Yankees would end up getting the last laugh on Saturday
While Rafael Devers put his team out in front with his fifth-inning blast, it did not last long. Gerrit Cole would get the much-needed run support as the Yankees went on to score seven in the bottom of the fifth.
However, they did not stop there. They went on to score four more runs in the seventh inning, leading to their 14-4 win. Rookie slugger Ben Rice was monumental in the victory, becoming the first Yanks' rookie to hit three home runs in a single game.
The win improved their record to 55-36, while the loss dropped the Red Sox record to 48-40. With the series tied, it all comes down to Sunday's series finale for all the bragging rights.
Kutter Crawford is expected to get the ball for Boston while NY will likely have Luis Gil start. Given how well both starters have pitched this season, Sunday's matchup could certainly be a pitching duel.
