Mookie Betts is one of the most talented players in the MLB. The outfielder-turned-infielder has been one of the most consistent players in the league since his debut in 2014. On Thursday, the eight-time All-Star appreciated what Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani are accomplishing.
In the latest episode of his podcast, Betts sat down with Baltimore Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson to discuss the phenomenal 2024 campaigns from Judge and Ohtani.
"Both can exist in the same space. I don't think one has to be better than the other one. I think we should appreciate greatness," Betts said.
As Betts mentioned, it is nearly impossible to decide which player is having a better season. The New York Yankees captain is on pace to set a new single-season home run record in the American League, and the Dodgers designated hitter could become the first player in MLB history to record a 50 home run and 50 stolen base season.
Although there could be a case made for Aaron Judge, given that he is also contributing to his team defensively, Shohei Ohtani's potentially historic season is happening in the wake of several obstacles.
Not only is Ohtani recovering from elbow surgery, but he has also delivered at the beginning of the season while dealing with his former interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara, who allegedly stole millions of dollars from him.
Regardless of which season you feel is better, Judge and Ohtani are the heavy favorites to win the MVP Awards in their respective leagues.
Mookie Betts gave props to the level of talent in the MLB right now
Although Mookie Betts said everyone should appreciate the spectacular seasons of Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge, he also noted the incredible wealth of talent across the MLB.
"It's unreal the talent that is in baseball," Mookie said in the podcast.
Aside from Ohtani and Judge, Mookie gave a shout-out to the exploits that stars such as Bobby Witt Jr. and Gunnar Henderson have been achieving this season.
