The New York Yankees are one of the top teams in the MLB. However, it has been a disappointing stretch for the club. Prior to the All-Star break, the Bronx Bombers had posted a dismal 8-17 record over their last 25 games, culminating with a heartbreaking late-game loss to the Baltimore Orioles.
In an interview on Jomboy Media's Talkin' Yanks, the Yankees manager Aaron Boone spoke on the team's recent struggles, including their crushing final game before the break.
He acknowledged that the late-game collapse against the Orioles before the All-Star break was a difficult one. However, it is also an opportunity for the team to come together and move forward.
[9:27] "That is one of those brutal ones that puts a wrinkle in the pep in your step," Boone said. ... "It's been a rough few weeks for us, acknowledge that and know we've got to play better." [11:16]
However, it was not all doom and gloom for Boone, who said that despite the rough stretch, the team must "acknowledge we've put ourselves in a really good spot going into the second half."
"We are the authors of this thing going into the second half," Boone added. [11:44]
While the veteran manager might remain optimistic heading into the second half, it's clear that something needs to change given the team's struggles lately. It remains to be seen if the time off during the All-Star break will benefit some of the team's struggling players or if the front office will look outside the organization for help.
The New York Yankees will likely bolster their roster before the MLB Trade Deadline
While Aaron Boone and the Bronx Bombers remain one of the top American League contenders for the World Series, the club will likely look to add players this summer. There are a number of areas on the roster that could use help, especially in the infielder and the bullpen.
The club has been in trade rumors all season, with several star players on underperforming teams linked to the Yankees as the July 30 trade deadline rapidly approaches. Jazz Chisholm Jr. of the Miami Marlins, Garrett Crochet of the Chicago White Sox and Mason Miller of the Oakland Athletics have all been linked to the club.
