Freddie Freeman urges Dodgers teammates to keep the 'vibe going' after Mookie Betts' injury

The Los Angeles Dodgers made it two wins in two after a comprehensive victory over the Colorado Rockies in their series opener on Monday, having beaten the Kansas City Royals 3-0 the night before. Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman was one of the protagonists for his team in the absence of Mookie Betts.

Despite former MVP Mookie Betts' absence, the Dodgers offense fired on all cylinders, taking the Rockies pitchers for nine runs. While Betts' injury is a big blow to the team, Freeman feels the team needs to be together until the star shortstop makes a return to action:

"It's not season-ending, we know he'll be back," Freeman said after Monday's win. "So we just got to hold it down until he gets back. And we have a good group to keep the vibes going."

The seven-time All-Star had one of his best nights of the season at Coors Field. Freeman was walked five times, one short of tying Bryce Harper's record of six walks in a game.

During a memorable outing, Freeman also contributed two runs and registered a hit, extending a three-game streak.

“Over the last few weeks, I know we haven’t been swinging the way we wanted to, but it felt like the bats were getting better and better as each day went on,” Freeman said. “Today, we just kind of put it all together.”

Dave Roberts reveals potential timeline for Mookie Betts' return

The Los Angeles Dodgers will be without Mookie Betts for six to eight weeks according to manager Dave Roberts. However, the star shortstop will not undergo surgery, much to the club's relief:

"The plan is he's just gonna get fitted for a splint," Roberts told reporters on Monday. "There's gonna be a couple weeks of inactivity with that hand, is my assumption. It's gonna be six to eight weeks, something like that."

As Freeman said, the team needs to hold on until Betts returns to action and the Dodgers did just that on Monday. Japnese superstar and two-time MVP Shohei Ohtani was promoted to the lead-off spot to fill in for his injured teammate, managing two runs on three hits along with a walk.

Meanwhile, Miguel Rojas, who returned to his natural position in Betts' absence, contributed with three hits, two runs and one RBI as the team raced to a comfortable victory.

Dave Roberts' team will hope to continue the winning momentum with a win in the second game of the series against the Rockies on Tuesday.
