The Los Angeles Dodgers' hitters struggled against veteran Atlanta Braves starter Chris Sale on Saturday, as he gave away just one run and managed to strike out six batters in six innings. Mookie Betts wasn't proud of his team's recent performances after a 10-1 blowout on Saturday.

Sale had everybody gripped in his deadlock, even the Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani couldn't do much as he had a strikeout and walk in the entire game. Moreover, he has gone 0-6 in the last two games, delaying his pursuit of the elusive 50-50 season.

Mookie Betts did not sugarcoat the poor performance of his team on the weekend:

"I mean, it just kind of depends, man. I mean, it does suck, especially you win a lot of ballgames with pitching. But you also got to hit, and you got to play defense. And so it does suck, but that's no excuse. That's no excuse. We just haven't been playing good baseball by any means."

Betts also blamed himself for not being good enough for his team and he needed to figure out how to play better with the postseason looming.

"I mean, it's tough. I mean, playing from behind is tough. The game is different playing from behind than going downhill. But those aren't excuses, man. You got to figure out a way to get it done. And we haven't been, and I haven't been. I got to do better in doing my part in helping us win," he added.

Dodgers manager agrees with Mookie Betts in his reaction to recent loss

The Dodgers need to solve their pitching problem as soon as possible. Jake Flaherty had the worst start of the season against the Braves, he was loose from the beginning, as he had three bases covered in the first inning and even had an earned run on Matt Olson's RBI double off the wall.

Mookie Betts wasn't a huge help to Flaherty either when he couldn't catch the ball hit by Jorge Soler toward the right wall. Betts wasn't too happy with his efforts postgame. The Dodgers manager Dave Roberts still expects his team to do better in the upcoming games.

"I know that teams are looming. I’m more focused on how we can play better baseball,” Dave Roberts said. “We still, what do they say – control your own destiny. We have to play better baseball. But those teams aren’t going away."

The Dodgers are still more than likely to make it to the playoffs as the NL West leaders have a three-game lead over the San Diego Padres. However, they need to find a way to improve their pitching.
