Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout had an injury scare on Tuesday during his rehab assignment. While playing for Triple-A affiliate Salt Lake Bees, he had to leave after just two innings due to knee soreness. However, on Wednesday, Angels manager Ron Washington had no updates on Trout's injury status.
Mike Trout has been recovering after undergoing surgery on May 3 to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee, an injury he suffered in April. Angels manager Ron Washington revealed that after leaving Tuesday’s game early, Trout felt better.
Washington also hoped the 11-time All-Star could play as the designated hitter in the Salt Lake Bees' game on Wednesday, saying (via ESPN):
"Hopefully he'll be able to DH today... So we've just got to wait and see how the day unfolds. He certainly felt better as the night progressed and we'll just have to wait and see."
However, the Angels skipper's hopes were dashed as it was later revealed that Mike Trout would not be in the Wednesday lineup for the Salt Lake Bees. The Los Angeles Angels revealed on X/Twitter that the 32-year-old will return to Southern California for further evaluations.
Discussing any further updates on Mike Trout after the Angels’ 2-1 victory against the Mariners on Wednesday, Washington said (via OC Register):
“Nothing other than he’s coming back to L.A. to be re-evaluated, so we’ll see what goes on with that.”
Mike Trout has had his playing time restricted due to injuries over the past few seasons
Before being placed on the injured list on April 30, Mike Trout was hitting .220 with 10 homers, six stolen bases with 14 RBIs over 29 games. When healthy, he is often considered among the best players in baseball.
However, in recent seasons his playing time has been restricted due to injuries. During the 2023 season, Trout suffered from a broken hamate bone that limited him to only 82 games.
He also missed some games in 2022 after being placed on IL due to a back injury. Mike Trout’s 2021 season saw him playing only 36 games due to a strained calf muscle.
