Heading into the 2023 MLB campaign, Nike has announced a new rule involving the City Connect Jerseys. According to multiple reports, the company has announced a "4+1" rule, which means teams will be able to carry four different sets of jerseys, as well as one specialty jersey.
Launched in 2021, the City Connect Jerseys are a series of alternate uniforms made by Nike for the MLB. The jerseys feature different color schemes, fonts, and graphical elements compared to the teams' typical home and away uniforms.
Today, the Atlanta Braves unveiled their 2023 City Connect jerseys, which were inspired by MLB legend Hank Aaron. In an homage to the home run icon, the jerseys resemble the design the Braves wore in 1974, the year Aaron broke Babe Ruth’s home run record.
The Braves host the San Diego Padres on April 8th, the 49th anniversary of Hank Aaron hitting his historic, record-setting 715th home run.

The new Hank Aaron jersey features include:
- The inside collar has a “715” graphic in a font reminiscent of the scoreboard lights at Atlanta Stadium after Aaron’s record-breaking 715th home run.
- The Art Deco crown design on the sleeves is a nod to Aaron as the home run king. The ribbing pattern on the peak of the crown is tied to the Presidential Medal of Freedom granted to Aaron by President George W. Bush.
- Aaron’s motto and number “Keep Swinging #44” appear above the jock tag, as well as the brim of the hat.
- "The A" on the front of the jersey represents the city of Atlanta. The Braves previously used it in marketing campaigns revolving around "for the A".
- The color scheme and sleeves are inspired by the 1972-195 Braves uniforms that were worn by Hank Aaron when he hit home run number 715.
"Hank Aaron's motto on the cap and the jersey. The attention to detail on the @braves City Connect uniforms is off the charts." - MLB
