What did Edwin Diaz say about Austin Adams for mocking the Mets? Breaking down the pitcher’s reaction to his opponent’s celebration

It's safe to say there's no love lost between former teammates Edwin Diaz and Austin Adams. Although Adams never pitched for the New York Mets in the regular season, he did open the year on the team's Spring Training squad. Despite his brief stint with the organization, Adams opted to take a shot at his former team during the Oakland Athletics' 9-4 victory on Tuesday night.

Austin Adams entered Tuesday's match up in the fifth inning in an unenviable situation. The reliever came into the game with two runners on base and no outs in the inning, however Adams racked up two strikeouts and a foul ball out to escape the jam. Following the final out, Adams copied the Mets’ OMG celebration, drawing the ire of the New York crowd as well as closer Edwin Diaz.

“He crossed a line because that’s something we do when we hit a homer or something," Diaz told the New York Post after the game.

The New York Mets All-Star closer said that Adams could do the celebration but if some retaliatory action were to take place, he shouldn't be suprised.

"He [can] do it always, that’s fine. But, he can’t get mad if we do something to him the next couple of days," Edwin Diaz added.

Although taking shots at former teams is not uncommon in any sport, there is a chance that Diaz and Mets were annoyed to see the Oakland A's reliever not only mock the celebration but his choice words when leaving the mound.

Edwin Diaz and New York Mets need to focus on the road ahead

While Edwin Diaz and the rest of the team might be frustrated with the emotional outburst from Austin Adams, the New York Mets need to put it behind them and focus on the future. Entering Wednesday's action, the Mets sit 2.0 games outside of a National League Wild Card spot and will need to step up if they want to clinch a postseason berth.

If Diaz and Co. want to get back at Adams, they should focus on winning their next two games against the Oakland A's. It remains to be seen what will happen when the teams square off on Wednesday night.
