The Miami Marlins may be without one of their electric stars, Jazz Chisholm Jr., following an injury Thursday against the Minnesota Twins. The star center fielder exited the game after injuring his shoulder at loanDepot Park.
"Oh no. Jazz Chisholm Jr gets hurt diving into second base and it doesn’t look good. He was removed from the game," Fox Sports MLB analyst Ben Verlander tweeted.
The Bahamian star attempted to steal second base in the first inning following a leadoff single. However, Twins starter and former Marlins pitcher Pablo Lopez stepped off the mound and threw it to second baseman Kyle Farmer. During the play, Jazz collided with Farmer's left shin, leaving him in pain on the ground.
While he was slow to get up, he was able to walk off the field on his own power. He was attended to by the team's medical staff before he walked off the field. Undoubtedly, the team and fans will be anxiously news on the extent of the injury, he is listed as day-to-day.
"Eloy Jimenez is a gigantic, awkward human whose injuries seem to stem from being a gigantic, awkward human. This seems very different, in terms of predicting injury, than, say, Jazz Chisholm colliding with someone on a stolen base attempt," CBS Sports fantasy baseball anaylst Chris Towers tweeted.
After beginning last season in All-Star fashion, Chisholm was limited to 60 games with a stress fracture in his lower back. He later underwent surgery to repair his right meniscus. However, after a shortened 2022 season, Jazz entered the new campaign with a clean bill of health, which makes today's injury more disappointing and worrying for the Miami Marlins.
In 60 games last season, Chisholm hit 14 home runs and 45 RBIs, while also recording 12 stolen bases. The 24-year-old from the Bahamas maintained a .254 batting average before his injury.

While several players were rumored to be on the cover, including Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees and Julio Rodriguez of the Seattle Mariners, they ultimately went with the Miami Marlins All-Star.
"The Cover Athlete has arrived! Guess his stat line for todays game!" MLB The Show 23 News tweeted.
