What is Luke Voit's contract with Milwaukee Brewers? Latest offseason free agency signing explored

Boston Red Sox v New York Yankees - Game Two
Luke Voit has joined the Milwaukee Brewers.

Free agent first baseman Luke Voit has signed a minor league contract with the Milwaukee Brewers, as reported by Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. The deal also includes an invitation to spring training.

He made his MLB debut for the St. Louis Cardinals in 2017.

"The Brewers signed 1B Luke Voit to a Minor League contract with an invitation to big league camp. Voit, 32, played 53 games for the Nationals last season. He hit 20+ homers each of the three seasons before that." - Adam McCalvy

Voit played for the Yankees from 2018 to 2021. The last two seasons have been marred by injuries for the former New York Yankees and San Diego Padres hitter. Going into the 2021 season, he suffered an injury to his left knee. He underwent surgery and returned in mid May, but his misfortune with injuries continued.

Voit's signing presents an interesting opportunity for the Brewers, who will hope that the possibility of a pay rise via arbitration might help extract the best out of Voit, despite his recent struggles. McCalvy said:

"If Voit makes the club and is able to return to form, he’d be a multi-year option for the Brewers, as he’s just shy of five years of Major League service time. As such, he’d be controllable one more year via arbitration. That’s putting the cart before the horse, but it’s a nice potential longer-term benefit if he can engineer a rebound with the Brew Crew."

The Yankees traded Voit to the Padres, with Justin Lange moving the other way. Voit posted .225/.317/.416 in his brief stint with the Padres. He was then traded to the Washington Nationals, with Juan Soto moving to San Diego in what was a major coup for the Padres.

Volt had an underwhelming two months with the Nationals, posting a slash line of 228/.295/.381. He became a free agent at the end of the season. However, his 2022 numbers still make for some decent viewing.
