Merrill Kelly pitches for the Arizona Diamondbacks. He used to play for both the Tampa Bay Rays and SK Wyverns. Thanks to his pitching skills, he has become one of the most in-demand baseball players.
Kenneth Merrill Kelly was born on October 14, 1988, in Houston, Texas. He attended Desert Mountain High School in Scottsdale, AZ. The Baltimore Orioles selected him in the 37th round of the 2007 MLB Draft, but he did not sign a contract.
He went on to play baseball at Yavapai College for two years. The Cleveland Indians picked him in the 22nd round of the 2009 MLB draft, but, just like in 2007, he did not sign a contract. He later transferred to Arizona State University, where he played for the Sun Devils in 2010.
He was chosen by both the Baltimore Orioles and the Cleveland Indians but did not sign any contracts with them.
Merrill Kelly made his debut in the MLB as a member of the Tampa Bay Rays on April 1, 2019. During his tenure there, he developed a stat of 13-8 with 111 strikeouts and a 3.64 ERA in 28 games. He also allowed 128 hits in 158 1/3 innings.
He joined SK Wyverns of the Korean Baseball Organization before the 2015 session. While there, he developed a 36-25 stat record and a 3.80 ERA. He eventually joined the Arizona Diamondbacks and developed a stat of 183 1/3. His pitching skills helped the team to win in 13 innings but lost in 14 innings. He also started the 2022 session with a 15 innings scoreless streak
Merill Kelly's Performance in the WBC 2023
Merrill Kelly represented Team USA on WBC 2023 as their opening pitcher. Although the USA lost to Mexico, Merrill Kelly's pitching skills helped the team make a good comeback and defeat Team Great Britain 6-2. Furthermore, he also helped the team defeat Canada 12-1, Colombia 3-2, and finally Cuba 14-2.
It is expected that Merrill Kelly, through his pitching skills, will lead Team USA to victory when they face Team Japan in the WBC 2023 finals.
