This year will mark a host of new beginnings for Jacob deGrom. The former New York Mets pitcher took a big risk, opting out of his contract with the only team he has ever known and becoming a free agent for the first time in his career.

When deGrom was drafted in the ninth round of the 2010 MLB June Amateur Draft, nobody expected him to rise to the level that he has. In 2014, he came out guns blazing. His 2.69 ERA over 22 starts was enough for him to win the NL Rookie of the Year Award that year.

2014 was a very special year for deGrom. After his breakout season, he married his girlfriend, Stacey Harris. The pair gave their vows at a ceremony at an exclusive location in Hawaii.

Stacey Harris was born in 1988 in DeLand, Florida. She attended Calvary Christian Academy, where she met her future husband in the mid-2000s, just before he was drafted by the New York Mets.

Stacey went to college in her home state. Upon graduation, Stacey worked in the medical field dealing with patients suffering from sleep apnea. Her work revolved around both clinical and sales roles within the sleep medicine industry.

The couple welcomed their first son, Jaxon Anthony, in April 2016 and their baby daughter, Aniston Grace, just two years later. The deGroms maintain residence in both New York City and their home state of Florida.

Due to injuries, deGrom did not take the mound in the 2022 season until August. A stress fracture in his right scapula left him sidelined for much of the year. He did rally, however, and posted a 3.08 ERA in 11 starts with the team in 2022.

In December 2022, deGrom signed a five-year deal worth $185 million with the Texas Rangers. At 34 years of age, it is very likely that this will be the second, and final, team that Jacob deGrom will play for.

Jacob deGrom will have to get used to the heavy-hitting AL West

Jacob deGrom has never pitched in the American League. He now finds himself dead-center in one of the most competitive divisions in all of baseball. If he can keep hitters like Jose Altuve and Shohei Ohtani at bay, then he will have proved that he still has his magic touch.
