MLB and style brand New Era's latest collaboration with Drake's company, OVO, has made negative headlines. The two brands released a line of MLB team caps that seems to be another one of the league's apparel decisions that has angered fans in 2024.
The new caps have the club logos along with OVO's logo on the sides. To everyone's surprise, the promotions had the Dodgers caps as one of the primary ones on display. This comes only months after Drake and Los Angeles native Kendrick Lamar's public feud, which saw the two mega giants of the rap industry engage in a brutal and personal mud slinging battle.
Drake's 'fight' with Lamar seemed to have transcended their personal spaces as it soon became much about the supremacy of the rap cultures of where they belong from. Kendrick Lamar's final song, 'Not Like Us', became an instant hit for the Los Angeles crowd. Thus, the former's latest collaboration with MLB seems to have come at the worst possible time.
Fans took to social media to discuss the new apparel. Los Angeles fans blasted the decision, with many claiming that no one would buy them in the city.
Dodgers have sided with Kendrick Lamar in feud with Drake
The Los Angeles Dodgers cleared their intentions about whose side they were on when the clash between the two picked up steam. In early May, they announced that second baseman Gavin Lux would be changing his walk-up song ahead of the series against the Miami Malins to 'Not Like Us'.
Even the organist at the Dodger Stadium played an instrumental version of the song in a game against the Brewers with Shohei Ohtani at the plate.
This clearly is not a surprise as Lamar is originally from Compton, a town in the southern part of Los Angeles County. The 37-year-old had even thrown out the first pitch in a 2015 game. He was also joined by the rest of his family as they watched the entire game after the ceremonial pitch.
