Anthony Rendon's Los Angeles Angels career has not gone the way anyone thought it would, and it doesn't appear to be getting any better at all. Finally healthy, Rendon began the season as the starting third baseman. For a few games, though, he'll be back on the bench.
He was suspended by MLB for an altercation where he took a swing at a fan in Oakland. The two got into it before Rendon swiped at the fan and walked away with the rest of his team.
He was given a five-game suspension which was reduced to four. That makes him eligible to return to the lineup on Saturday when the Angels face the Toronto Blue Jays.
Rendon has barely been healthy since signing his major contract and he can't seem to avoid missing time for any reason at this point. If he can stay healthy and out of trouble, he could be a key piece of the Angels' playoff hopes.
Anthony Rendon's expectations for 2023
Now that he's finally healthy, there's reason to believe Anthony Rendon will show why he earned such a big contract with the Angels. He was one of the best third basemen in baseball for some time.
While his 2023 projections don't place him there anymore, he is expected to have a solid season. The expectation is that he will exceed 3.0 fWAR, which would be the first time since his career year in 2019 with the Washington Nationals.
He's expected to hit .266 with a 131 wRC+ to be a solid offensive contributor for the Angels.
