San Diego Padres star Yu Darvish is reinstated from the restricted list. Early in July, the Japanese ace was placed on the restricted list, with the team saying that he was dealing with some family matters.

Darvish has now been reinstated and is back with the team. However, he's on a 15-day IL because of elbow inflammation.

Team manager Mike Shildt and management elected to put the pitcher on IL to get him back to his full potential before he steps on the mound again.

Darvish returned to the team on Friday before their game with the New York Mets. Although he didn't mention why he left, Darvish said that he was pleased to be back with the team.

"It was a difficult decision to leave, obviously. Things can get complicated sometimes. But, again, it's really good to be back. All in all, it's a great day."- Darvish said through interpreter Shingo Horie, according to MLB.com.

Although he's back now, it will take a bit of time for Darvish to return to game action. He threw a 27-pitch bullpen session as a part of his recovery.

Before getting sidelined, he played and started 11 games for the Padres this season, going 4-3 record, with an ERA of 3.20, WHIP of 1.07 and 53 strikeouts.

Padres manager Mike Shildt hopes Yu Darvish to return soon following his reinstatement from restricted list

Padres manager Mike Shildt has opened up about star pitcher Yu Darvish's return after the team reinstated the player from the restricted list. Shildt sounded optimistic about Darvish getting back on the mound soon with the rotation.

"When (Darvish) is ready to come back, he’s going to be in the rotation,” manager Mike Shildt said. “So it’ll have an impact -- and a positive impact.”

The last game where Darvish pitched was in May against the Miami Marlins. He threw three innings and racked up an ERA of 3.20.

The Padres are holding on to their hopes of making it to the postseason. Shildt's team is third in the NL West but are just 4.5 games behind the LA Dodgers.
