Brad Pitt plays Oakland A's GM Billy Beane in Moneyball

The 2011 film Moneyball was one of the most popular baseball movies ever made. It tells the story of Billy Beane, a former player and the current general manager of the Oakland Athletics. Bound by a stringent budget, Beane turns to Sabermetrics, an advanced strategy for selecting high-value players.

Beane's 13-year-old daughter is portrayed by actress Kerris Dorsey. Her character, Casey, lightened her father's mood throughout the film, and was acclaimed for her performance of "The Show" by Lenka for the movie's soundtrack.

Dorsey was 13 during filming. It is not, however, known exactly how old Casey was when the movie took place. Casey's biological mother is Cathy Sturdivant. After Sturdivant's divorce from Beane, he married Tara, who is Casey's stepmother. The pair had two more children, Brayden and Tinsley.

Casey Beane attended Kenyon College in Ohio. As of 2022, she was working at the Chicago-based LLC company Citadel. Casey stays out of the private eye. As far as we know, does not have any involvement in baseball.

Moneyball remains an all-time favorite for baseball fans

The movie made its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2011. Brad Pitt, who portrays the struggling Beane, was nominated for six Academy Awards for his performance.

The film portrays the true story of how Beane and Brant built the 2002 Oakland Athletics from the ground up to win 103 games and advance to the ALDS, where they eventually lost to the Minnesota Twins.

Beane grapples with the departures of key players like Jason Giambi and Jason Isrinhausen, who have gone to richer teams like the Boston Red Sox. He soon recruited Yale graduate Michael Brant from the Cleveland Indians to help manage his front office.

In their on-stage roles, Beane and his daughter share an amiable and loving relationship. However, sensing her father's stress, Casey assuages him with her singing. The song is played towards the end of the film following a scene where Beane turns down a highly lucrative offer to join the front-office of the Boston Red Sox to employ his sabermetric approach.

While there was some criticism surrounding the accuracy of the real-life events portrayed in the film, Moneyball was well-received. The movie delved deep into the ins-and-outs as well as the more human side of baseball. To quote from Billy Beane: "It's hard not to be romantic about baseball."
