The 2022 World Series champion Houston Astros are gearing up for yet another season. In 2023, they will be seeking to advance to their fifth World Series in seven seasons.
The roster will look similar, with a few notable changes. Most evident was the departure of 2022 Cy Young winner Justin Verlander. The 40-year-old signed a two-year deal with the New York Mets.
Additionally, 36-year-old first baseman Jose Abreu will be the most notable addition to the team. His arrival at first base came as the existing first baseman, Yuli Gurriel, became a free agent.
The Houston Astros were the best team in the American League last season, compiling a record of 106-56. The team was a hitting powerhouse, blasting 214 home runs, second only to the New York Yankees in the American League.

Houston Astros look set to clinch their 6th division title in 7 seasons
The Astros have come in first place in their division, the AL West, almost every season since 2016. One exception belongs to the Oakland Athletics, who won the division in the shortened season of 2020. Even with the departure of key names like Verlander and Gurriel, the team has retained enough depth to get them very far in 2023.
