The San Diego Padres are a force to be reckoned with and the Seattle Mariners will not be too far behind

Xander Bogaerts inked an 11-year, $280 million contract with the San Diego Padres during the offseason. Along with Nelson Cruz, an old, declining slugger who possessed MVP caliber some years ago, they also gained some crucial depth in the form of Matt Carpenter. Carpenter has seen an unexpected career resurgence with the Yankees.

In the meantime, the San Diego Padres signed multi-year agreements with Yu Darvish and Joe Musgrove for at least $100 million. Not to mention new contracts with Nick Martinez and Robert Suarez.
