With the MLB playoffs getting closer each day, teams are hustling to improve their standings. The New York Mets are no exception, as they are in a tight race for the NL East lead.

The Philadelphia Phillies currently lead the NL East, followed closely by the Mets and the Atlanta Braves. The Mets and Braves were previously tied, but the Mets pulled ahead by winning their recent game.

After their 3-2 victory against the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday, the New York Mets now have a record of 79-65, with a .549 winning percentage, putting them 7 games behind the Phillies. Meanwhile, the Braves stand at 78-66, with a .542 winning percentage.

The Mets have successfully secured a wild card spot by a narrow margin, with the Braves just one game behind them. Meanwhile, the Arizona Diamondbacks are one game ahead in the wild-card standings and the San Diego Padres are 1.5 games ahead.

With the Padres in a position to claim a better Wild Card spot, the New York Mets' seeding in the postseason is still at stake. If San Diego continues to maintain its lead in the NL Wild Card race, it could give them a home-field advantage in the Wild Card Series.

Mets pitcher Luis Severino discussed the NL wild-card race

After the New York Mets' 3-1 loss against the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday, Mets pitcher Luis Severino opened up about their NL Wild Card race.

"I think for us right now, we're not worrying about who's winning and who's losing. Right now we just need to win series. Even when we were not even in the talk of being in the playoffs, we were just trying to win games,” Severino said (via SNY).
“And if we continue to do that, if we continue to focus on our team, not worry about what the other teams are doing, I think we’re going to do good."

The New York Mets will face the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday in the second game of their series at Rogers Centre.
