Anthony Volpe became a fan favorite among New York Yankees fans before even playing in an MLB game. Once Yankees manager Aaron Boone announced that Volpe would be a member of the Opening Day lineup, fans rejoiced, dubbing the moment "Anthony Volpe Day".

The highly talented shortstop has long been hailed as the next Derek Jeter, becoming the New York Yankees' first legitimate shortstop prospect since "The Captain". While his rookie season has not started with a flurry of hits, fans have already fallen in love with their new shortstop.

While the spotlight has a tendency to change the attitudes of young players, Volpe does not seem to have been affected by his sudden fame and attention. The young shortstop, while becoming one of the most exciting prospects in the league, has not forgotten the road to the MLB and those who helped him reach this stage.

When Volpe was drafted by the team in the first round with the 30th selection of the 2019 draft, it was emotional for his parents Isabelle and Michael Volpe. As the son of two parents with different ethnic backgrounds, Anthony is proud of his two cultures.

His mother, Isabelle, is a Filipino anesthesiologist. Originally from the Philippines, she grew up in the Asian country in a large household with six siblings, before moving to the United States.

The other half of his family, Anthony's father, Michael, also works in the medical field. Michael has pursued a successful career as a urologist and is of Italian origin.

A look at Anthony Volpe's short MLB career so far

As Volpe adjusts to the MLB game and pitching, he has already proven that the New York Yankees' decision to include him on the Opening Day roster was the right move.

While his batting will only improve, his speed on the base path has given the Yankees some on-base speed around their power-hitting sluggers Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton.

So far this season, Volpe has hit .176 with three runs scored and three stolen bases. His average will only climb as he becomes accustomed to the MLB level of pitching, potentially becoming the next Derek Jeter that fans hope he will be.
