New York Yankees top prospect Anthony Volpe's parents, Isabella and Michael, have strived to help their son achieve baseball success. When Volpe was drafted by the team in the first round with the 30th selection of the 2019 draft, it was emotional for his parents.
Anthony is a mixed-race person. His mother, Isabella, is a Filipino anesthesiologist. While his father, Michael, is a urologist, is of Italian origin.
One common thread that binds Volpe with his parents is their love for the New York Yankees.
In September, Anthony was promoted from the Somerset Patriots, the Yankees' Double-A affiliate to the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.
Anthony Volpe idolized Derek Jeter while growing up as a New York Yankees fan
In an interview with MLB.com last year, Anthony Volpe opened up about idolizing Yankees legend and HOFer Derek Jeter.
“How could Derek Jeter not be my favorite?" Volpe said. "I remember him more for his farewell tour than anything else. We traveled to Minneapolis for his last All-Star Game, and that was an unforgettable experience. Although the 2009 championship was the only one I was around for, Derek was my idol, a larger-than-life person to me.
"I don’t think anyone will ever compare to him or come close to what he has accomplished. At the same time, I know that my parents were so happy that Derek Jeter was the face of the Yankees at a time when I was so young and impressionable. He was such a great role model.”
Volpe has set the world alight for the Yankees in his few big league appearances, with both the bat and the leather. He's been drawing rave reviews from manager Aaron Boone. The Yankees have reposed trust in the kid from New York to become their first dependable shortstop since Derek Jeter. MLB fans are excited to see what the 5-foot-11, 180-pound infielder has to offer with his youthful exuberance and unique set of skills. The Yankees' future at shortstop could be set for years to come if Volpe pans out properly.
