Who is Michael Wacha's wife, Sarah Wacha? All you need to know

New San Diego Padres starter Michael Wacha

Starting pitcher Michael Wacha reinvented himself last season. Pitching for the Boston Red Sox, Wacha had the best season of his career. It now looks like the 6-foot-6 right-hander has found a new team.

After his contract with the Red Sox expired after the 2022 season, it was thought that Wacha would have no problem finding a new home. In 2022, Wacha made 23 starts, registering an ERA of 3.32, as well as pitching a complete game shutout against the LA Angels in June.

However, Wacha was not signed for months into the offseason. Even as big deals were handed out to other names who had hit free agency, no team seemed willing to ink a deal with Michael Wacha.

Finally, in February 2023, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported that Wacha was close to signing a deal with the San Diego Padres. If he passes the physical, the Padres will be the fifth team in Wacha's 10-year career.

Wacha was born in Iowa but grew up in Texarkana, Texas. He pitched for Texas A&M before being drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in 2012. He made his debut for the team a year later.

Michael Wacha met his future wife, Sarah Hoffman, in 2014. He was based in St. Louis, where she was from. They met in May after Sarah returned to her hometown after her junior year at Arizona State University, where she studied at the Tucson School of Education and graduated in 2015.

Sarah took a job teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) in St. Louis. The two lived in St. Louis together while Wacha played for the Cardinals. The pair were scheduled to hold a lavish wedding ceremony, however, the COVID-19 pandemic interrupted those plans. They ended up holding a private ceremony at their home in Jupiter, Florida, in November 2020. Their first child, Marcia, was born in October 2022.

Sarah and Michael Wacha will embark on a new journey together on the West Coast

The pair recently relocated to Jupiter, Florida. With Wacha going to the San Diego Padres, they will have to make the move across the country. It may be worth their while, as the Padres are a solid pick to go deep into the 2023 postseason.
