Mookie Betts waves after a brilliant outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks

Mookie Betts is one of the primary reasons that his team, the Los Angeles Dodgers were able to outhit virtually any team that they came up against during the 2022 season.

The Dodgers were first in the National League in runs, doubles, walks, and on-base percentage. Needless to say, this made them an incredibly hard team to keep at bay.

A large part of their perpetual offensive success was at the top of the lineup, handled by none other than Mookie Betts himself. Hitting ahead of 2020 NL MVP Freddie Freeman, Betts was able to score 117 runs, the most in the NL.

After his fourth consecutive Gold Glove with the Boston Red Sox in 2019, the right-fielder was sent to the Dodgers along with David Price in exchange for Alex Verdugo, Jeter Downs and Connor Wong. He subsequently penned a 12-year, $325 million extension the next season.

Apart from his six career Gold Gloves, Betts also has six All-Star designations, five Silver Slugger Awards, and an AL MVP Award. He credits his mother, Diana Collins, for getting him into baseball as well as his second-favorite sport, Bowling.

"How is Mookie Betts spending his offseason? Bowling another 300" - @ Blake Harris

Diana Collins is known for taking a big role in the development of her son. When Mookie Betts grew up in Tennessee, she coached his little league games. Collins grew up on a tobacco farm in Paducah, Tennessee. Nop doubt, the ethics she learned there are directly noticeable in Betts' contemporary playing style.

Apart from farming, Collins has been bowling since a very young age. She is known to love all sorts of games, and is known to be able to solve a Rubix Cube in two minutes. She raised Betts with his father, Willie, who served in the Vietnam War before returning to his native Tennessee to become a railroad mechanical superintendent.

Mookie Betts is also pro bowler, following in his mother's steps. He started out at Tennessee High School and has kept up the passtime ever since. He even participated in the World Series of Bowling in Las Vegas in 2015 and 2017.

Betts has bowled three perfect 300 games. To bowl such a game, a player must bowl a strike in every frame. This effectively means that Betts has bowled 12 consecutive strikes on three occasions.

Betts competed in and won the CP3 PBA Celebrity Invitational, a bowling tournament that is held by Phoenix Suns NBA star Chris Paul. Betts beat pro bowler Tommy Jones in the final to win the tournament.

Mookie Betts is a star in whatever he seems to do

Despite a promising career likely awaited Mookie Betts as a bowler, he probably made the right decision in pursuing baseball instead. The 2020 trade that brought Betts to LA might have been one of the best moves of the decade for the Dodgers. With another 9 years left on his contract, there is plenty of time left for him to continue to dazzle fans.
