New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe has received a new uniform number ahead of his debut with the Yankees.
The Yankees have revealed Volpe's new jersey number ahead of his MLB debut on Opening Day.
The No. 11 has recently become increasingly popular at Yankee Stadium. Volpe, who wore No. 77 during spring training and won the Yankees' starting shortstop position, settled on No. 11 on the eve of his MLB debut on Opening Day on Thursday, the organization revealed.

But the numbers were not simply handed to the rookie. Volpe requested the number from Gardner. The No. 11 was not worn at all in 2022, and Gardner himself last wore it in 2021.Volpe will be the first to do so since Brett Gardner wore it from 2008 to 2021.

Anthony Volpe grew up in New York City. He became a fan of the New York Yankees in Major League Baseball (MLB) after his family purchased half-season tickets. When he was in fourth grade, his family relocated to Watchung, New Jersey.
