The New York Yankees have made it to the ALCS. After Thursday's thrilling Game 4 win over the Kansas City Royals, they will return home to host the American League Championship Series on Monday. They will have three full days off before then.
New York will play either the Cleveland Guardians or Detroit Tigers next. Both ALDS Game 4s were on Thursday night. The Yankees' win allowed them to move on, but Cleveland's victory forced a decisive Game 5 in Cleveland on Saturday night.
Thus, the Yankees will await the results of that game to determine their next opponent in the American League playoffs. That division series game will be played at 8 p.m. EST on Saturday, and later that night, the opponent will be set.

How the Yankees got to the ALCS
The New York Yankees are the first team to secure an ALCS bid. They did so on the back of a four-game victory over the Kansas City Royals. The Yankees opened the series with a tight 6-5 win in Game 1. Alex Verdugo singled home Jazz Chisholm Jr. in the seventh to win.
However, the Royals bounced back. After a dominant opening by Carlos Rodon, the Royals chased him in the fourth with four runs and held on to win 4-2 to even the series.
In Kansas City, the Yankees rode a red-hot Giancarlo Stanton to victory. His eighth-inning home run delivered a 3-2 win, but he also had a single, double and a stolen base.

In Game 4, New York used a stellar outing from Gerrit Cole. He pitched seven full innings with only one run allowed. He did endure a flyout to the wall that would've tied the game for his final out, but Clay Holmes and Luke Weaver shut the door to allow the Yankees to move on.
They were the hosts and will be in the ALCS because they won the AL's top seed. However, depending on who they play, if they make the World Series, they may not be. The Los Angeles Dodgers, who have a Game 5 tonight, have the MLB's overall best record this year and would host if they made it.
