On September 22, Yoendrys Gomez was called up by the New York Yankees from the Double-A Somerset Patriots. With the tap, the young arm is joining MLB's most effective bullpen.
Yoendrys Gomez is a 23-year old native of the city of Nirgua in northwestern Venezuela. Gomez signed with the Yankees organization as an 17-year old international free agent in 2016, earning a $50,000 signing bonus.
Since penning his deal, the 6-foot-3 right hander has been in the Yankees' minor league system. His North America baseball career when he was assigned to the GCL Yankees West of the Florida Gulf League in 2017.

Gomez will be on hand in the Yankees bullpen as the team plays host to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Regular relief man Luke Weaver is projected to make the start, leading many to believe that Gomez may be called upon to eat up some relief innings.
In 19 starts for the Somerset Patriots in Double-A this season, Yoendrys Gomez has an ERA of 3.58, a WHIP of 1.286 and 78 strikeouts across 65 innings on the bump.
Early in 2021, Gomez dealt with injury issues. The Venezuelan suffered a UCL tear which resulted in surgery and the subsequent need for a brace. His arsenal consists of a fastball, slider, changeup, and curveball, with his fastball being the most effective delivery method.

When Gomez puts on his pinstripes, he will be joining a roster that is seeking to avoid finishing last in the division since 1990. With a record of 77-76, the Yankees currently occupy the fourth place in the AL East, eighteen whole games behind the Baltimore Orioles, who lead the division.

When Gomez finally takes the field for the New York Yankees, it will represent his MLB debut. As such, the young pitcher will see the culmination of all the hard work - both in his native Venezuela and during his time in the United States. Hopefully, he will make an impact, and be able to get used to the inside of an MLB bullpen.
