Chip Caray has been the voice of the Atlanta Braves for two decades. Fans who have tuned in to a game during that time have undoubtedly heard his iconic voice calling their beloved Braves' games. However, that run has ended.
Caray is leaving to join the St. Louis Cardinals broadcast team in a similar role. Ultimately, his time covering the Braves simply ran out. Two decades is a long time to spend with one team and it seems he and the Braves both needed a new situation.
Why did Chip Caray flee the Braves?
Chip Caray is the grandson of legendary Cardinals broadcaster Harry Caray and the son of another former Braves commentator, Skip Caray. The allure of going home to St. Louis and following in his grandfather's footsteps was too much for him to pass up.
Caray's voice will be missed in Braves country, but they have a fine broadcast team nonetheless. They're essentially replacing Caray with Brandon Gaudin, but they also have Jeff Francouer, Tom Glavine and many other exceptional talents working alongside him.
Here's who will be on the broadcast team this season:
- Brandon Gaudin: Play-by-play
- Jeff Francoeur: Game analyst
- Tom Glavine: Game analyst
- Peter Moylan: Game and Braves Live analyst
- Treavor Scales: Braves Live host
- Kelly Crull: Reporter/Braves Live host
- Lauren Jbara: Reporter/Braves Live host
- Nick Green: Game and Braves Live analyst/reporter
- Kris Medlen: Braves Live analyst
- Gordon Beckham: Braves Live analyst
- Ashley ShahAhmadi: Braves Live host
The Braves will survive and the Cardinals are likely thrilled to add such an iconic voice to their broadcast.
