Why was Eric Hosmer DFA'd? World Series Champion slugger sent down by the Cubs in chastening fashion

Eric Hosmer was DFA'd by Chicago Cubs for offensive struggles

Eric Hosmer is a popular first baseman for the Chicago Cubs in the MLB. However, he was recently designated for assignment by the team.

The Chicago Cubs decided to undergo a roster change before they start their series with the Philadelphia Phillies. Their main plan was to clear a spot in both the 26-man roster and the 40-man roster for the arrival of Mike Tauchman in the major leagues. Additionally, it also is leading to the return of Nico Hoerner from the injured list and Edwin Rios from the Triple-A in the major leagues as well.

Hosmer has been one of the brightest prospects in baseball. He is widely known for being a hitter with raw power. However, he has been offensively struggling in 2023. He has just slashed .234/.280/.330 and two home runs and 100 plate appearances in the 2023 season. Moreover, he also has been at best an average hitter for more than five years now. He was not producing for the Cubs and did not have a defined role in the team. This led to the team designating him for assignment.

It is expected that if Hosmer is released by the Cubs, he will soon find himself in another team because of him being a World Series Winner.
