The New York Mets' Tommy Pham has proven to be a big hitter for the team this season. His 3-for-4 performance helped the Mets defeat the Miami Marlins 5-1 at LoanDepot Park. It’s all thanks to the player’s new corrective lenses.
Pham suffers from an eye condition called kerataconus which causes thinning of the cornea and loss of vision. The veteran outfielder stated:
“I feel like I’m seeing the ball better. My eye doctor out there ... she kind of fine-tuned my lenses for me, and when I got my new lenses on Friday, I felt like everything was way different in a good way."
He added that his other lenses had some kind of astigmatism, which is too much residual cylinder in them. So, the doctor fixed them for him, thereby helping him to see. The lenses proved to be incredibly helpful for Pham because they allowed him to show his hitting skills in the match against the Marlins. It is expected that his “new vision” will help him to play more good games.
How much does Tommy Pham make?
Tommy Pham’s “new vision” is helping him to provide better performances for the New York Mets. The Mets have signed him to a one-year $6 million contract. However, Pham can earn another $2 million based on his performance and plate appearances.
The Mets have put a lot of trust and dependence on Pham. He is a .259 career hitter with 114 home runs, 97 stolen bases and a .787 OPS in nine major league seasons. He has also played for teams like San Diego Padres, St. Louis Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds, Tampa Bay Rays and Chicago White Sox.
