Over the years, Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez have made up the very core of the New York Yankees. The pair played together on baseball's most iconic team from 2004 until A-Rod's suspension over the 2014 season.
Although both were exalted as two of the best players of their generation, their retirements have turned out differently. Jeter retired in 2014 and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame on his first ballot in 2020.
By contrast, Alex Rodriguez has had a much more checkered retirement. After retiring in 2016, his reputation was in tatters after a high-profile investigation revealed he had been using performance-enhancing drugs throughout his career. A-Rod failed to make the Hall of Fame after being on the ballot in both 2021 and 2022.
"There are 31 players in MLB history that have produced at least 100 career WAR. Three of them are not in the Hall of Fame and they were all on the 2022 ballot (Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens and Alex Rodriguez)." - @ ESPN Stats & Info
Since his retirement, Rodriguez has worked as a baseball studio analyst for Fox Sports. He was nominated for an Emmy Award on account of his broadcast work in 2019.
Rodriguez has hit 696 home runs and 2,086 RBIs over his 22-year career playing for the Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners in addition to the Yankees. Despite his obvious skills, Rodriguez is still considered one of the most controversial players of the modern era.
Derek Jeter played his entire 20-year career for the New York Yankees. He retired with 260 home runs, 1,311 RBIs and a career average of .310. In 2017, he became a joint owner of the Miami Marlins and was thereafter named the CEO of the team.
