Dodgers catcher Will Smith's wife, Cara Martinell Smith, is great friends with Gavin Lux's fiancee, Molly O'Boyle, since their partners had been playing as teammates with the LAD since 2019. The duo were even spotted together cheering for the team and their partners during the 2024 World Series in October 2024.
The Dodgers announced a trade deal with the Reds on Monday that will see second baseman Gavin Lux going to Cincinnati in return for outfield prospect Mike Sirota and Reds' Competitive Balance Round A pick.
Cara Smith penned down heartfelt notes for both Lux and his fiancee via Instagram stories. The various captions on her story read:
"Molly Molly Molly... I am gonna miss the heck out of you and loving on my girls 😭 😢 "
"Forever cheering you all on and can't wait for all the fun celebrating you this year 🤍 💍 "
"Last one because Chars gonna miss giving @therealgavinlux knucks anytime they saw each other."
Will Smith and Gavin Lux capped off an amazing 2024 season for the ballclub with an eighth Fall Classic title. Lux missed the entire 2023 season due to an injury but made a comeback in 2024, only to play at the second base.
Smith filled his usual role of backstop for the LAD throughout the season and came up with clutch hits to win some important games.
Will Smith's wife, Cara penned a heartfelt note for the partners of all the Dodgers' ballplayers
Will Smith's wife, Cara took to social media after the Dodgers won the 2024 World Series to share pictures with all her friends and partners of LAD ballplayers for their amazing support. The pictures also included Gavin Lux's fiancee.
"From opening day until the very end of postseason… here are the ladies behind the boys in blue!! The bond is one of the most special and honestly very hard to describe!"
Now, after being teammates for six seasons in LA and winning the World Series in 2024, good friends, Lux and Smith will be likely facing each other in many inter-divisional series in the National League from next season.
