Trevor Bauer's hopes of returning to the MLB are fading. The former Cy Young winner claimed on YouTube that the Colorado Rockies had turned down his offer to play for them.
Bauer was one of the best pitchers in the league when he was put on administrative leave due to domestic abuse allegations. Initially banned for 324 games, Bauer's suspension was later reduced to 194 games. But he was let go by his team, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and has since then played in various international leagues.
Last season, Bauer played for the Yokohama DeNA Baystars in Japan. In 24 starts for the team, he recorded an 11-4 record with a 2.59 ERA. This year, he signed a contract with Mexico's most successful franchise, Diablos Rojos. He has a 10-0 record with more than 120 strikeouts in 83.1 innings. He also set the Mexican League record for most strikeouts in a game with 19.
Bauer claimed he would play for the league minimum wage if a team signed him. In the video, he also said:
"Well, Colorado was like, ‘We know that you didn’t do any of this stuff; you’re just not a fit for our organization.'"
Trevor Bauer's reaction to Domingo German's contract
Domingo German had been out of an MLB contract after being released by the Yankees last year. He was signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates who picked up his contract from Triple-A Indianapolis. This prompted a reaction out of Trevor Bauer who sarcastically laughed at the decision.
The league suspended German initially for slapping his then-girlfriend in 2019 at a charity event. This does put a question mark on whether the league deliberately wants to keep Bauer out of action.
