Willy Adames broke the San Francisco Giants franchise record when he signed an eight-year, $182,000,000 deal as a free agent. The previous record holder was Buster Posey, the current president of baseball operations of the Giants.
On Tuesday, MLB dropped an Instagram post on its official channel highlighting the stats of Juan Soto, Adames, Max Kepler and other players in the home ballpark of their newly signed teams.
Willy Adames shared the post on his Instagram story with a two-word caption that summed up his anticipation to play for his new club.
"Can't wait," he wrote.
As per the MLB stats, Adames has a staggering .321 average, .827 OPS and nine RBIs in 16 games at Oracle Park, the ballpark of the Giants. As such, it's no wonder he is excited.
In the last four seasons, Adames showcased his mettle as Milwaukee Brewers shortstop and had built up a reputation as a great clubhouse presence, making it easy for the Giants to rope in the 29-year-old. In 2024, he hit a career-best 32 homers and drove in 112 RBIs, finishing 10th in NL MVP voting.
With Adames at shortstop and five-time Gold Glove winner Matt Chapman at third base, the Giants now have one of the best defensive left infields in the MLB. However, they are in the NL West division with the LA Dodgers, San Diego Padres, Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies, making it the most competitive division in the league.
Heliot Ramos excited to play with Willy Adames
After the Giants officially announced Willy Adames, the 29-year-old disclosed to a reporter that he had conversed with Matt Chapman. Interestingly, Chapman had floated the idea of the two playing together even before the Giants signed Adames.
Chapman is not the only one excited to play with the shortstop. All-Star outfielder Heliot Ramos is also looking forward to it. The 25-year-old spoke about it on MLB Network Radio.
"I mean I feel like he's a great player, the numbers show it obviously. As a person, I got to meet him," Ramos said. "We have been hitting this past couple of days together and he's so positive. He's such a good person too. So it's like it's good to have him around. He loves talking hitting. He loves like working on his swing, he loves working on his body and all that."
Heliot Ramos believes Adames' veteran presence will help the team improve. Ramos added that the $182,000,000 Giants acquisition will be there to hold him accountable if he loses concentration.
