Willy Adames elected for free agency at the end of the 2024 season with the Milwaukee Brewers and signed a franchise record seven-year $182 million deal with the San Francisco Giants.
Despite moving away from Milwaukee, the star shortstop still has a connection with the Brewers. The former Brewers star's sister, Nixzali Adames Luna, is dating Brewers catcher William Contreras.
The Brewers catcher was ranked first on 'MLB Network's Top 10 Catchers Right Now' list, released on Thursday. Nixzali shared a post by MLB in her Instagram story, acknowledging Contreras' feat with a 'praying hands' emoji.
Brewers outfielder and Contreras' teammate Jackson Chourio also reacted to the All-Star catcher's feat. Chourio, who had a breakout year with the Brewers in his rookie season, finishing third in the National League Rookie of the Year votings, shared a story with a 'salute' emoji to acknowledge Contreras.
While Chourio had a stellar rookie season in 2024, his senior teammate, William Contreras produced career-high offensive numbers. He had a career-high 23 home runs with a career-best 92 RBI. It earned him a second All-Star nod along with a second Silver Slugger award and finished fifth in NL MVP votings.
William Contreras could be heading for arbitration hearing after failing to agree terms with Brewers on Thursday
The Brewers need more firepower in the hitting order, especially with Willy Adames moving to San Francisco after a 32 home run season (career-high) with Milwaukee in 2024.
With Adames leaving, the onus will be on William Contreras, deemed the best offensive catcher in baseball at the moment. However, Contreras' future with the Brewers could be in doubt after the two-time All-Star failed to reach an agreement on contract terms and could be heading for an arbitration hearing.
The two-time club MVP was the only player who failed to reach an agreement before Thursday's deadline as the Brewers avoided arbitration for five other players. Starters Aaron Civale will earn $8 million next season (per MLB.com) and Nestor Cortes ($7.6 million). Joel Payamps ($2.995 million), Trevor Megill ($1.94 million) and Nick Mears ($963,000).
