Juan Soto and Aaron Judge have been stitching together a historic hitting duel not seen in a while in the majors. The conversation heightened when the duo combined for three home runs against the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday. While Judge is leading the majors with 45 home runs, Soto has struck out 36.
This duel-hitting marvel has evoked comparisons with other baseball duos, with one post comparing them with the legendary combo of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. Yankees hurler Marcus Stroman placed the combo of Aaron Judge and Juan Soto over Ruth and Gehrig, attracting comments from fans.
"But Better," Stroman said.
Many fans disagreed with Stroman, suggesting Ruth and Gehrig were different beasts with accolades to back them up.
"Don’t get me wrong, I love watching Soto and Judge rake, but Ruth and Gehrig defined a decade of baseball. Time will tell how much these guys are remembered, but 3 and 4 are retired for a reason," one fan commented.
"Somehow Yankees fans will rip him (Stroman) apart on twitter calling him disrespectful," another posted.
"Win a fu**ing World Series, and this will be a conversation," one user wrote.
However, some fans stood up in defense of Stroman.
"With how far the game has progressed since then, Stro is right" one added.
"lmao hes 100 percent right," another added.
"They’re both f**kin awesome…just gotta win the big one…and then a few more…and a couple others. Love watching it though!" another added.
Comparing best season of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig with that of Aaron Judge and Juan Soto
There have been many seasons where Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig dominated the season at the plate, but among them, 1927 can be seen as their best season.
Ruth had a bWAR of 12.6, while Gehrig registered 11.8, meaning their combined bWAR would have been 24.4. Ruth hit for 60 home runs while hitting .356 along with 192 hits, 165 RBIs and 158 runs. Meanwhile, Gehrig had a .373 batting average with 218 hits, 47 home runs, 173 RBIs and 149 runs scored. Both combined for 107 home runs.
Meanwhile, with over a month to go, Aaron Judge and Juan Soto have combined for 81 home runs. They are on pace to achieve bWARs of 11.0 and 9.1, respectively, which means their combined bWAR score would be 19.1, falling short of the mark set by Ruth and Gehrig.
