World Baseball Classic fans react to Angel Hernandez's questionable strike zone: "How did he get chosen to do this?" "He needs to go!"

World Baseball Classic fans got a first-hand experience of what MLB fans deal with all year when Angel Hernandez was behind the plate for the game between Team Venezuela and Team Nicaragua.

In the first inning, Team Nicaragua had two runners on with no outs when Angel Hernandez rang up a batter on a pitch that looked inside. While the pitch was close, this was an instant momentum killer.

This could have been a huge inning for Nicaragua, but Venezuela came out unscathed. Team Nicaragua scored first in the second inning, but that first inning could have been tremendous.

Here's how fans reacted to his call:

"How did he get chosen to do this? Should be on merit, not on seniority," one fan tweeted.
"He absolutely sucks. He's screwing this game up for both teams. His floating strike zone changes each pitch. He needs to go!!" wrote another fan.

World Baseball Classic fans are trying to determine how Angel Hernandez was selected for this tournament. They believe only the best umpires should be working.

Angel Hernandez is no stranger to making some questionable calls. One of his most famous calls came in 2013. Adam Rosales of the Oakland Athletics hit what seemed to be a walk-off home run for his squad but was called a double instead. The A's went on to lose the game on a groundout a couple of pitches later.

This World Baseball Classic has been electric so far

World Baseball Classic Pool D: Nicaragua v Venezuela

The World Baseball Classic has been electric so far, and we are still only in pool play. The tournament will only improve as teams advance to the knockout rounds and the stakes increase.

Team Venezuela have looked like one of the more dominant teams so far. They are 3-0 after beating Team Nicaragua on Tuesday and sit alone at the top of Pool D.

Samurai Japan are the only other undefeated team in the tournament. Japan are 4-0 and sit at the top of Pool B.

With pool play coming to a close, it will be interesting to see which teams advance. This tournament has been a lot closer than most might have thought. Expect even tighter games going forward until a champion is crowned.
