Team Venezuela has been a force in this World Baseball Classic. They quickly showed their prowess by defeating Team Dominican Republic on the first day of pool play.
They capped off their undefeated streak in Pool D with a 5-1 victory over Team Israel. There may not be a team in this tournament that can stop Team Venezuela.
Team Israel hung in there, but they didn't have enough. Team Venezuela got off to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. Pitcher Jesus Luzardo shut down Team Israel's bats, pitching four innings and giving up zero runs.
Ronald Acuna Jr. had a big game at the plate, going 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Eugenio Suarez and Eduardo Escobar both hit home runs in Venezuela's Wednesday victory.
"None of the teams from pool C are beating them in the quarterfinals," one fan tweeted.
"Hooray!!" responded another fan.
Venezuelan fans couldn't be happier with their team in the World Baseball Classic. Not many expected anybody to make it out of Pool D undefeated.
Team Venezuela's starting pitchers have been dominant in this tournament so far. Martin Perez, Pablo Lopez, and Jesus Luzardo have allowed just three runs. Watch out for this team moving forward as they look like the complete package.
Competition is only going to get tighter as we move to the quarterfinals in the World Baseball Classic
Baseball fans have been treated to some good games during pool play in the World Baseball Classic so far. The games are only going to get better as we move further into the tournament.
The only two undefeated teams left in this tournament are Team Venezuela and Samurai Japan. The majority of the field is pretty even, as most teams are stuck at 2-2. This shows just how close the pool games have been.
This has been the perfect start to the baseball season for fans. As Spring Training is exciting, the games don't really matter, it's just about guys getting their work in. In the WBC, every single game matters, and nobody takes a play off.
Team Venezuela has already advanced to the quarterfinals and are awaiting the runner-up in pool C. Their first quarterfinal matchup will be on Friday at 7 p.m. ET.
